An actual tutorial, not visual entertainment, on repairing an all-too-common problem with the Canon EF-S 17-85mm zoom lense, the zoom function fails. "You can do it -- we can help!"
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, it really helped me fixing my identical fault.
If I could have offered advice before recording the video I would have suggested including the final note points as video as it would have helped me, the verbal descriptions seem to only make sense once you realise the mistakes possible, I made 2, getting the focus bar outside of the focus pin, also incorrect positioning of the 3 pronged fork inside the zoom shield, so I stripped it three times! :)
@thezerocool22 Glad it helped, a bit! Yes, on your advice "before" recording! I hadn't set out to make a video; it wasn't until it was all apart and fixed that I thought, "Maybe someone else could benefit from my experience (and mistakes!)." So I recorded myself putting it back together, then used segments of that, played backwards, to make this video. Decided against taking it apart again to get some more specific shots! The video was more than I had, so hoped it might help someone else.
Used your video instructions to repair my daughter's lens and saved her £168. Many Thanks.
