  • I want to see an F-22 and PAK FA in formation and do an airshow once.

  • @DINDRAGON first of all....dont trust wiki ...second AL 31 and 41 have diferent work or specs, plus remember MACH speed its diferent at high altitude and near sea level

  • @DINDRAGON ...we still have Su30MKI ;) 04 and 06 an air shows and Su37 fly for russian knights but not on show...remember there are someone of them still alive ;)

  • @BAACCOOOOCk THANKS :) ...its obvius SU27 and its variants started it

  • @DINDRAGON very true. same thing for my country's AF. Malaysia is not a large country, and it's closely surrounded by many countries. Mach 1+ for a minute, you'll reach Singapore lol.

that's why they bought Su-30MKM w/ integrated European avionics (it has Rafale's HUD/sensor suite, Topsight HMD+MBDA MICA, Gripen's IFF/comm systems and others) instead of the 'stealthy' Block 3 Super Hornet or F-15SE.

cheaper than most semi-stealth fighters, but very deadly in close dogfights.

  • @itom95 Understandable, but for certain air-forces like my country's, dogfighting and point defense is more important than combat range due to "simulated interceptions" (which is a competition of skill between Turkish and Greek pilots for prestige) that occure mostly within Greek airspace and rather near to our airbases. For such short ranges between take off and engagement a semi-stealth design would practically be useless for the one scrambling.

  • @DINDRAGON no, it still can do Mach 2.35+ but the engine will drink more fuel due to excessive drag = less range. same thing for other canard-equipped jets.

canards are extremely useful in subsonic speeds (like in airshows/dogfights), but they are extremely inefficient and kinda useless in speeds around M2.0. they also have poor stealth characteristics.

that's why Sukhoi omits the canards, and put a better 3DTVC system to make it just as maneuverable as the canard-equipped 35/37.

  • @itom95 Pardon my ignorance but how does an engine with significantly greater thrust on an almost identical aerodynamic design (Su-35BM with canards vs Su-37) provide lower maximum speed? Is the Al-41F-1 engine less efficient at high speeds than the the older Al-31F installments? [note that the original Su-27 had a maximum speed of ,2500km/h while according to wiki the Su-35S(BM) has a maximum of 2390km/h and if I recall correctly from a Jane's book the original Su-35 was at 2400km/h]

  • @DINDRAGON the Su-35S has RCS less than 1m^2 head on. compare that to the canard equipped Su-37/30's RCS around 20m^2.

    that is HUGE difference.

plus, the new engine and TVC makes the aircraft very maneuverable, it doesn't need canards anymore. according to Sukhoi, canards can still be installed for super-epic-Chuck Norris-mega-maneuverability if customers want them. but max speed will be limited to M1.9-M2.0 due to drag.
