Doctor in Distress is a pop music single related to the BBC television programme Doctor Who.

In 1985, when the production of the series was suspended for a year and it looked as if it faced cancellation, a charity single was produced and released in March. It was written by the series' unofficial continuity advisor Ian Levine and freelancer Fiachra Trench and performed by a group of 30 mid-level celebrities under the banner "Who Cares". Participants from Doctor Who included Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor), Nicola Bryant (companion Peri Brown), Nicholas Courtney (recurring character Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) and Anthony Ainley (the Master); musicians who participated included members of the bands Bucks Fizz, The Moody Blues and Ultravox. The music was played by Hans Zimmer on a Fairlight II synthesizer; Zimmer was later to have success as a film composer.

Proceeds from the single went to the charity Cancer Research.

  • It's a shame Faith Brown (frontmost left) never got her tits out on the front cover of the record otherwise they would have probably sold a helluva lot more discs LOL

  • What were they Thinking!!!!

  • I can't believe I actually bought this peice of rubbish. What the hell was I thinking!?

  • I can't believe Hans Zimmer was part of this

  • I'm a BIG Doctor Who fan (abet an old school one so I've always known about this song) but one thing has always bugged me about this one.....

Why would anyone moan about a show not being on the air for a longer than normal length of time?

(Never mind the fact that 'The Trail of a Time Lord' was crap barring 'Mindwarp')

It's not as though they axed it (like back in 1989.....)

Still it's not all that bad....

  • @bluejeckett Yeah, and it's still going on, isnt it? I know they've done a couple of charity songs in denmark every two or three years since... whenever a charity needs money, some indie producer does a song which he hopes will make a nae of him.

  • @hcvang lmao, yeah that was shocking, you can see it was based on some pretentious idea that cos it worked for Live Aid that anyone could suddenly release some half arsed single and save something, there was alot of that thinking in 1985 afte the success of the original but just goes to show how deluded some in the TV and media are.

  • @staffiedog44 people with aspergers are unable to make such distinctions... their interest is the number one cause on the surface of the planet.

  • @LordGeorgeRodney everyone's entitled to a brainfart now and then.

though, I guess it's arguable whether you should be entitled to brainfarts that are this smelly...

  • @LordGeorgeRodney : Oh, yes-way; It's the same man.

  • I feel really bad that Ian is my mother cousin now XDXD
