Whenever you rent a movie, the multinational media industry forces you to watch their propaganda. They claim that [downloading movies is the same as snatching bags, stealing cars or shoplifting]. That's simply not true -- making a copy is fundamentally different from stealing.

The media industry has failed to offer viable legal alternatives and they will fail to convince consumers that sharing equals stealing. Unfortunately, they have succeeded in another area -- lobbying to adapt laws to criminalize sharing, turning consumers into criminals. They argue that their laws are necessary to [support artists], but in reality all they're protecting is their own profits.

The Greens in Europe and worldwide has been opposing these laws. We believe that consumers are willing to pay if offered good quality at a fair price. We also believe that sharing is expanding culture -- not killing it.

To protest against the faulty propaganda from the industry, we made our own film. The difference is -- you can choose whether you want to watch this one.

  • "You wouldn't download a car!"

    - "Fuck you, I would if I could."

  • Its a pro piracy comercial. There is a anti piracy comercial called You Wouldnt Steal, which is often shown at the beggining of dvds. The comercial does different "you wouldnt steal" scenarios such as "you wouldnt steal a car" and "you wouldnt steal a handbag" at the end of a comercial it says something like "so dont steal movies" "piracy is stealing" blah blah blah.

This comercial is a play on that.

  • I bet this was made by students. Let me know if I'm right or wrong please.

  • kind of a cool song in this video. couldn't shazaam it. Anybody know what it is called?

  • You say the record labels are stealing from artists, guess what, so are you!

Sharing what doesn't belong to you is garden variety theft.

  • There was a programme a few years ago by "bajateuncoltgratis" where they put parts of a car on the web on filesharing networks and the first person who downloaded all the pieces got the real car. In other words, you could download a car. It was only for Spanish residents though.

  • @mrugm

Well, as an upcoming artist, I would love to say that I wouldn't care if you downloadet all the stuff I created, but frankly son, I need to live, and so do these artists, If I manage to get stinking fucking rich THEN I won't care if you downloadet it, but if it means that I can't have any food tonight, then please. Buy it!

  • Yeah, but the books are only paid for once and they are read by multiple people. By your definition if they don't get permission from writers to do this it's piracy. Hundreds of people might witness your book for free through a library, while you only get paid once.

  • @PsicJaden I think it's great to get the word out about your works, I just think there's more honest ways of doing so. I only disagree with it if the artist did not give their permission and it's done against their wishes. It is their work after all, s'all. And yeah, ^_^.

@W00Pg Dude, explain what this has to do with libraries. Libraries generally have their books paid for by the city or they are donated. Different concept.

  • Ever heard of a library, DrakeVenix? It's hardly a new concept.

  • if piracy is a crime, does it mean that more 60% of the world population between the ages of 15-40 are criminals???? and that they should be prosecuted against??

    sharing music INDEED promotes artists..

they could lower the price for cds and dvds, and stop calling 'piracy' as theft... promote ur creations for free, and ask people to buy em if they want to...

  • Piracy should NOT be called a 'crime'!

whneva we d/l any game, movie, music, or ebook, WE r promoting it! do the creators of the same only want to make money out of his creations?

would YOU as an artist be happy if ur songs could only be available to those who can afford to pay for them? if your wonderful game, on which you spent months, maybe years, to develop, cud only be played by a select few? and if u really want 2 lower 'piracy', lower the cost price of ur product! more ppl would buy it!
