I can't say for sure because I only saw this movie now and I was about 10 when it came out so i wasn't paying attention, I was actually in the hospital, but this movie is so under-rated. I wish it was more publicized and appreciated for good acting and a good message about healthcare.

Well, it's been 7 years since the movie came out, so I'm guessing that John Q has long since served his 2 year sentence and is living happily with his wife and chid.
