Boom. Excellent, so it's good for not only hooking someone as they strike, but also for disarming and following through with a downward cut.

@Xavierofthewell Buy something heavy, train with it for a year or more... then buy a light sword. Just make sure it's hardened steel, price/quality doesn't matter. THEN buy a nicely built handmade, light long sword. You will fight so so much better. That's what they did back in the day, and it works.

I keep hearing how these swords for most of the middle chopping section were kept "chisel sharp" for half swording and less likely to chip. How sharp is "chisel sharp"? Would that just mean giving it a bevel on a 100 grit stone? I'm sure it couldn't chop people in half, but I can still see it doing a lot of damage if it were to hit flesh or ring your bell if it hit a helmet

What do you think is the best low-budget longsword blunt on the market? (something that is relatively light, can take a beating, and is a good beginner longsword? Right now I have a flimsy starfire light hand and a half and the Hanwei Norman sword blunt.
Let me know your thoughts, Thanks!

@ilanchico : 3.25 pounds I believe. Very good for a 4 foot long sword.

@thewildchimp Really depends on whether you're a lefty or a righty, i suppose.

Hmm... I my fencing school we are being thought basically the same thing, although left hand comes above right and the center of the rotation is at the cross-guard rather than at the pommel. I'm somewhat curious if there is any real difference in practice.

@ilanchico it would likely weigh around 3-4 pounds by the looks of the sword.
