The above link is to my Chronogamer blog which puts this video into some sort of context.

It makes more sense in the context of that blog and you can also see that I didn't even notice that playing against the computer was unique until Supercat pointed it out. (Thanks supercat!) Oh, and when I say "far ahead of its time", I only mean by about two years.

  • The blackjack in this game was terrible compared to other blackjack games on other consoles. You could only double down in this game. You couldn't split a pair of identical cards or buy insurance. The only console blackjack games from the early 80's to feature all three options were Casino for the Atari 2600 and Ken Uston's Poker & Blackjack on the ColecoVision.

  • I'm a big fan of Casino! Poker Solitaire is an overlooked gem! I haven't made it to the Coleco Vision blackjack yet.

Oh, yeah, INTV Blackjack was missing some features, true, this demo of it is to show the innovation of a simulated range of emotions on a face in a game. Odyssey^2 had some good animations showing emotional body language (I've Got Your Number & Golf come to mind) but this was the first time we saw a face get annoyed and smarmy. .

  • It took every iota of self-control I possess to not refer to the shuffle as the "standard farting sound" found in card games of the era. :D

  • Such a fun game. I just played it last night. Great way to kill time.

  • Love playing Blackjack? What if there were truly a secret that nobody knew about with respect to the game of blackjack? And what if the very thing everybody thought were true about blackjack, was actually the exact opposite of the truth? Check us out

    google blackjack secret code.

  • I may be recalling incorrectly, but I think the dealer would sometimes smile when he had a bad hand because they taught him to bluff.

  • Most successful game on the system.

  • @JTNugget

lol...me too. I was like 3 years old and my brother and sister would play this. I was always alarmed.

Yes, for 1978 seeing an animated dealer wearing a bola tie was a revelation for some. It was a great way to wow people.
