An excellent classroom demonstration. A 3 bladed fan painted with flourescent red, green and blue is illuminated by an ultraviolet LED at different strobe frequencies to produce intriguing combinations of white and colored images.

  • I believe I still have the writeup around, let me know how I can send it to you.

  • I've revisited this issue a number of times with various people, and I think there's no way to prove that what I perceive looks the same to you, since it's all interpreted by our brain anyways. Perhaps some neuroscientists out there might chime in with more recent thinking...

  • matmaui: I actually did a short writeup for a friend about a year back. it's a 3 page word document which explains things pretty well. If you have an email address, I will send it to you. It's hard to explain well in 500 characters or less...

  • This is absolutely amazing!! I find anything that has to do with our senses, perception, and brain to be quite fascinating. I would love to read the write up that you did. Please let me know if that's possible and I will send you my email as well. :)

  • Quick question, is it possible that the colours we perceve could vary from person to person? It sounds weird but I am talking about what colours an individuals brain percives compared to another. Because as you know, the brain transfers electrical signals sent from our eyes through the optic nerve into colours. Well, is it possible that what my brain perceives to be green, you fpr example might perceive to be yellow.

  • i find this fascinating! i'm really amazed at how the colors seem to reorganize when the blinking speed changes. can you please explain to me the relationships between the different blinking speeds and the different color patterns? how does it happen?
