Have they stopped playing this song??

The song was written after the 1940 Stanley Cup and was played on the organ each time the Rangers took the ice from 1940 to 1973 by Gladys Goodding(1940-1963), Virginia Thomas(1963-1968), Eddie Layton(1968-1971), Ashley Miller & and Toby Wright(1971-1973). Beginning in 1973 a horrible recording of the song was played for a few years and when John Ferguson took over it was discarded and brought back in 1979 on the organ until 1985 when the organ was removed and replaced by recorded music.

Al Trautwig needs to go further back in time to the 49th Street Garden circa late 1950's through mid 1960's and the Original 6. At the start of each period, Virginia Thomas, and maybe Gladys Gooding before her, would play the Ranger Victory Song followed by Tico-Tico during the skate around. if you got to the garden early enough, 2 hours before gametime, you would get to hear a free concert on the organ. Ah, the days of G.O. cards, Win Elliot, Jim Gordon.....

I'd read the lyrics before and never saw how the opening would fit in with the part of the song I'm used to hearing at the Garden...now it all makes sense. Thanks for posting. PS, I forgot what Trautwig looked like with hair! I feel old now...
