Surya was on borrowed time at this point. Barry Davies had stated at Worlds the year prior to this that she had plateaued as a skater, and I agree completely. Yes, she was a tremendous athlete, yet she was never a great skater. Her inconsistency with her jumps and an almost lack of everything between the jumps is the reason why she never won a world title or an Olympic medal. If you think judges were harsh on her then, she certainly wouldn't get far based on today's judging system.

that music is crazy! haha but i really like some of the choreography in this...although i don't see where she two footed anything, just a couple cheats.

@Telltaleheart79 These are 2 very experienced commentators: Alan Weekes (RIP) and Barry Davies, who is a brilliant figure skating commentator for BBC. They only stated the truth - some of these jumps, ambitious yes but very messy and 2 footed. She seemed to have improved her landings and edges in 93/94 but then reverted to her old technique. This music was not good, I much preferred her Four Seasons routine but she got the Silver here, which she deserved. Kwan should have got the Bronze though.

@JogaOhio No, that's not true at all. There are many things wrong with the current judging system but you need more than jumps to do well. Bonaly often underrotated and telegraphed her jumps and had awful skating skills, so she wouldn't score very well under the point system.

The sad thing is if she came around during this new age of figure skating she'd be unbeatable because all they want now are jumpers.
