Boat 16 was team USA Premier Open, they won gold in this race. The water was very shallow and if you got up close to another boat you took on water from their wake. In the senior race 2000 run ahead of this the USA had closed the gap right behind the eventual winner Hungary and shipped water and dropped back to finish third. The strategy here was to leave plenty of room so this did not happen again. Slovakia suffered the same fate our Seniors did by getting too close too early taking water.
