@stevenckb Over half the monument is missing. Most of the stones you see lying down are ones that have been pulled down,chopped up & left behind. They did a fair amount of restoration throughout the 1900's and were left alone because it would be folly to try to reerect half a stone. It was a delicate balance of trying to not make it too "reconstructed." They actually worked to a picture from the 1800's and the whole restoration was filmed in full view of the public.
