Mr. Bungle was an experimental rock/avant-garde metal group from Northern California. The band was formed in 1985 while the members were still in high school and was named after a children's educational film. Mr. Bungle released four demo tapes in the mid to late 1980s before being signed to Warner Bros. Records and releasing three full-length studio albums between 1991 and 1999. The band toured in 2000 to support their last album but in 2004 they disbanded. Although Mr. Bungle went through several line up changes early in their career, the longest serving members were vocalist Mike Patton, guitarist Trey Spruance, bassist Trevor Dunn, drummer Danny Heifetz, and Clinton "Bär" McKinnon on saxophone and woodwinds.

Mr. Bungle was known for its distinctive musical traits, often cycling through several musical genres within the course of a single song. Many of its songs had an unconventional structure and utilized a wide array of instruments and samples. Live shows often featured members dressing up and an array of cover songs.

Despite the fact that it was signed to a major record label, the band never experienced significant commercial success during its lifetime and only released one music video.

Before you advertise
All the fame is implied
With no fortune unseen
Sell the rights
To your blight
Time-machine

While I'm dulled by excess
And a cynic at best
My art imitates crime
Paid for by
The allies
So invest

Now I'm finding truth is a ruin
Nauseous end that nobody is pursuing
Staring into glassy eyes
Mesmerized
There's a vintage thirst returning
But I'm sheltered by my channel-surfing
Every famine virtual
Retrovertigo

A tribute to false memories
With conviction
Cheap imitation
Is it fashion or disease?
Post-ironic
Remains a mouth to feed

Sell the rights
To your blight
And you'll eat

Now I'm finding truth is a ruin
Nauseous end that nobody is pursuing
Staring into glassy eyes
Mesmerized
See the vintage robot wearied
Then awakened by revision theories
Every famine virtual
Retrovertigo

  • Pirsig argues that 'quality cannot be defined because it empirically precedes any intellectual construction of it, because of the fact that quality exists always as a perceptual experience before it is ever thought of descriptively.

This song is my definition of dynamic quality.

  • @ThatHauntFreak2 There's plenty of stuff. Let me know if you're interested in hearing some.

  • I really wish this band were still together. We could use some originality in the music world right now.

  • One of Trevors best songs!

  • @Dunnknowargie says a Trevor Dunn fan :D:D

  • Ah, the Patton tree has grown too big to allow seeing the forest :P

Mr. Bungle, a hell of an example of collective ground-breaking musicianship!

  • @andrewmassacre1

If I were younger, slim, beautiful, smart, talented and residing in NY, I'd marry Trevor and have at least 5 of his kids. U_U

  • @andrewmassacre1 it's silly right? That some places gay marriage isn't allowed.
