John McCain doesn't want nuclear waste in his backyard — but yours is just fine.

When asked "Would you be comfortable with nuclear waste coming through Arizona, you know, going through Phoenix on its way to Yucca Mountain?" John McCain's answer was clear: "No I would not."

But through your state — that's a different story. He's been a consistent supporter of storing waste at Yucca Mountain. In 1998, John McCain even voted in favor of shipping nuclear waste from New England to Texas. For his support the electric utility and Nuclear power industry has rewarded McCain with more than half a million dollars in campaign contributions.

McCain Said He Would Not Be Comfortable With Nuclear Waste Being Transported To Yucca Going Through Arizona. In an interview in Las Vegas, Senator McCain advocated for the storage of nuclear waste in Yucca Mountain. When asked "What about the transportation? He supports going forward with building more nuclear power plants and believes storing waste inside Yucca Mountain will streamline that cause." In 2002, McCain voted for a motion to proceed to the resolution which, pursuant to the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, approves of the site at Yucca Mountain, Nevada for the development of a repository for the disposal of high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Nuclear Energy Institute was "the nuclear power industry's trade association, representing 260 corporations in 15 countries. McCain Voted In Favor Of Shipping Nuclear Waste From New England To Texas. In 1998, McCain voted in favor of legislation granting Congressional consent to an agreement allowing Maine and Vermont to send low-level radioactive waste to a dump site in Texas. Antontellingfibbs. 2 . No need to demolish the plant and quarantine the site. You just need to upgrade/modernize the reactors about every 50 years. Hell you can keep it operating for centuries. Not that it matters much but nuclear waste after 10,000 years of radioactive decay the waste is harmless...not 100,000 as you mentioned.

Antontellingfibbs. 1. Nuclear waste will not harm the "planet" because the waste will be confined to a very small area. To give you some perspective the area for the waste proposed Yucca repository is 2.2 sq. miles vs the entire USA has 3,536,294 square miles. (that's 0.000062%). in other words your fear about harm to the planet is completely irrational. Yes that 2.2 sq mi will be unusable for anything else, but the area is sparsely populated & inhospitable anyway. (ever been to Vegas in July?)

Nuclear reactors and waste will harm the planet FAR more in the long run than oil and shit we have going now.

When a nuclear powerplant has reached the end of its lifetime (40-55yrs), You cant demolish it before 110-120yrs has past since the shut-down.

And nuclear waste isnt harmless before 100 000years have passed.

And what if a plant or two in the usa becomes terror-targets, and they succeed? Answer: youre fucked.

Drilling is pointless it will barely effect oil prices and wont take effect until nearly 2025. Even then it will have an effect of around 5cents per gallon. By then we should be off oil according to our so called Politicians. All it will do is give oil companies more money for their wallets. Nuclear plants cost 500million to a billion each and are expensive to maintain. To get a permit for one nuclear plant takes 10 around years so McCain is bullshitting when he says that. McCain is a LIE!
