@thesixtiesguy the price is so high because it is basically a 1950s version of a full entertainment center....record player, radio & TV in a fancy cabinet. He said you could get a set as low as 189.00......but even still that was a lot of money. Actually in 1950 you would have to be very wealthy to buy a 2nd TV set just for the kids to watch. It would have been considered absurd to buy a kid his own TV set back then. My family didn't have a second TV till about 1968

Only $489.50. Anybody have any idea what that would buy in 1950? That's about $5000 today. WOW! No wonder most folks only had one set. You could buy a nice car right off the showroom floor for $1500. Great video. Keep it up Ira.

This is the first half-hour of a three-hour special that aired over NBC on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1950 [12-3pm(et)] . At that time, "Rootie Tootie" hadn't become "Rootie Kazootie" as yet.
