http://siliconvalleyfit.com/ Through many years of experience, I can tell you that it is not worth risking the health of your shoulders by performing a traditional full range of motion in the olympic bench press. There are of course exceptions to this rule.

Some athletes like a shot put thrower needs a full range of motion due to the fact that the athlete is doing it anyway and needs a movement pattern in the full range of motion. However if the shot put athlete is having pain problems due to anterior instability and or impingement syndrome, then a reduced range of motion in the training program is suggested.
