This car was the first Jaguar owned by the author Dick Francis. In the clip it has no wiring loom, no fan belt, no exhaust system, no cooling system and because of new rings and bearings it is very tight and difficult to turn over. I'm using a screwdriver to connect the starter solenoid. It's amazing that the starter motor can turn it. It was impossible with the starting handle. At the end of the clip the rocker oil feed flexible pipe catches fire due to a leak.

  • Ideally you really want to know the condition of the main and big-end bearings before you start it. You might find that the crank has corroded and starting it will put nasty scores in your bearing shells. Whilst in there clean out the oil pump and strainer. At a minimum you should probably drain the sump and re-fill with fresh oil. This will also let you check whether water has got in there. Good luck!

    The flames were on the other side of the engine and were due to an oil leak.

    No doubt the starter motor was also feeling the heat but it lives to start another day.

    The owner, who, in the video, is watching me mess with his engine, has now put the car in the hands of the professionals and the body is now looking superb. Might be on the road this year.

  • @PHILACEDESIGN and fill each hole with oil-loosely thread each plug in and let it sit for a couple days---then pull the plugs out and at the crank bolt gently see if it will turn or rotate not forcing it-if it moves freely then the story begins--if not then next chapter....sounds fun good luck!!!

  • @tank2449 take each plug out(if they are real rusty spray them down a couple times at the base of the plug with liquid wrench and let em sit just to make sure they come out easy) i have learned the hard way on reviving these old ones patients is really an asset and a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...

  • I have a ford 600 v8 it a 1953-1964 i forgot the year stock and all it sat for about 28 years and i want to get it going whut do i need to do to get her ruining it has been siting out side in montana weather and i need some advice on how to get it going the engine seems fine it just got parked becuase the use of haling hay was over so it was parked when it was still good

  • Needs a radiator, a fan belt, a working fan, spark plugs, headers, carbourator, pistons, rocker arms, and because of you fucking around, a new starter
