In conjunction with the New Hampshire Publicity Bureau a gala celebration was planned to mark the return of Old Peppersass. Elaborate plans were made to run Old Peppersass up Mount Washington one more time before permanent retirement. The stage was set for the most spectacular run Peppersass ever made. my grand mother was on her wjean she broke the cog gear but they used the brakes to back it back to the base safely

They found the original Peppersas in a museum, brought her back and recommisioned her as a publicity stunt, while on her first run up the mountain after so many years the engine failed on a particularly steep grade of track and started rolling uncontrollably back down the mountain, everyone was able to get off safely except one photographer who was believed to be trying to retrieve his camera, the engine finally derailed at a sharp bend and crashed into a ravine.
