Valerie Block, Architectural Marketing Specialist DuPont™ SentryGlas®: From an aesthetic point of view, whats really great about the interlayer its very clear. We call it an ultra-clear interlayer. So, when you use this ultra-clear interlayer with ultra-clear glass, which is now on the market, the combination is really amazing. Its just crystal clear. You dont get the greenish tint thats typically associated with glass, and you dont get a slight tint thats associated with other interlayer materials. Its very clear. And I know, because I myself have been on the skywalk out in Arizona, looking down into the Grand Canyon. And the view, even though youre looking through multiple pieces of glass, is just incredibly clear. Anybody who has seen bullet-resistant glass, which is made with multiple plies of clear glass, regular, clear glass, would relate to this, problem, if you will, of the iron buildup in the glass itself, which causes the glass to look green. Essentially, you think youre looking at green glass. Youre really looking at a laminate of multiple plies of clear glass. It the gl the green tint is just so pronounced that actually, in the end, you think youre looking through green glass. Which is one of the reasons the primary glass manufacturers introduced whats called low-iron glass in the first place. Now, low-iron glass is available from all the primary glass manufacturers. And it works well with SentryGlas® interlayer, because the interlayer is also formulated to be ultra-clear. So if you put two pieces or more of low-iron glass together, and the SentryGlas® interlayer, you really end up getting a laminate, no matter how thick, thats very clear, and gives you very, very good visibility. So, thats an aesthetic consideration, but in some cases a very practical consideration. If youre talking about bullet-resistant glass in a bank, for instance, or security glass in a storefront, jewelry store application, or other types of commercial applications, where you really want people to be able to see through the glass and see whats on the inside of the building.
