@dimakauffman in a bad way or in a good way????

No one can be better Karenina than Samoilova

@dimakauffman Actually, having read the book and watched some movie from it (the one with Greta Garbo, the one with Vivien Leigh and the series with Kevin Mc Kidd as Wronsky) I think that Sean Bean is an excellent Wronsky here. S. Marceau is too weack actress for such a complex role; Alfred Molina is very good and so is Mia Kirschner. I think that A. Molina and S. Bean are actually the only strong points of an overall mediocre movie.

Sophie Marceau as Anna Karenina = Superb
Mia Kirschner as Kitty = Charming
Alfred Molina as Levine = Mediocre
Sean Bean as Wronsky = OBSCENE

@1o951o8 they filmed at several of the fomer tsarist and nobility palaces of St. Petereburg, Russia. Yeah, it's a later era! War and Peace chronicles Russia during the Napoleonic Invasion in 1812 in a way. Anna Karenina in the background contains the changes that have come about after the invasion of the French some 60 years earlier. Taking place in the 1870's the High Society in Russia speak only French to each other and take part French Social activities.

heyy where was this filmed?? It's the same place (and dance) they danced in War and Peace! but this is a later era, no? (judging from their dress, cuz i haven't read or seen Anna Karenina) hahah
