  • i have been natural for 7 yrs, locked for 6. i graduated college 6 yrs ago and have nvr had an issue getting a job. i am from okla, have lived in ohio, cali, and now illinois. when ppl talk about the job thing...that is some bs.

  • i think its more so your location. my sister is also locked in dc. she moved from LA. it also depends on the industry that york in.

  • when it comes to styles, women tend to follow the mainstream media. So if there were positive representations of natural styles then women would probably get them. Right one of the most popular woman out there is beyonce and she has a weave and so does tyra. Women see them as beautiful and want to emulate that. When halle came out u saw the short hair cuts, when janet rocked the braid in poetic justice, women followed that. I even saw wmn with Alicia keyes braids when she first came out.

  • well then who controls mainstream media? Not black men. its not black mens' fault that black women want to mainstream into a society that is not created or maintained by them.

I think black women have more control than they portray in terms of their hair. i just feel like they are scared to take the risk so they go with what is comfortable. What makes tyra and other women in her league attractive to black men has more components than just her hair length and texture.

  • "... big reason why we chose relaxers, is because its manageable. I simply don't have hours to devote to styling natural so that it looks professional."

I cant speak for everyone else but Im natural and I dont spend hours stying my hair so it can look "professional". I probably spend the same amount of time if not less doin my hair(and my hair is kinky/ curly n not locked). I had very long permed hair and i'am gaining lengthy natural hair" sorry but your statement sounds like a cop-out.

  • am i the only one who thinks tyra banks looks scary with all that makeup and 25 inch weave? It reminds me of rupaul. it's not natural looking, it's pin straight horselike weave. She doesn't practice what she preaches. What a turn off. She has power in the media and still hides behind all that hair and makeup. I know years of modeling in the 90s has done this to her. But I now see more models like HOLLIS rocking their own afro textured hair on the runway.

  • ppl say natural hair is hard to manage, no, NO ONE EVER TAUGHT YOU how to manage your natural hair

  • This is a black man making astute observations and saying this?? Wow. *clap, clap, clap.

  • gr8 video

  • im going natural

  • I agree with everything you said...more of us black women should wear our hair natural. But, I do have to say that the big reason why we chose relaxers, is because its manageable. I simply don't have hours to devote to styling natural so that it looks professional.

  • Mann i'm from tha south and bw get away with wearing braids and locks in tha work place and guys can't... It bs 2 me

  • Yeah, natural does not equate to healthy. Healthy eating and healthy hair care equates to healthy natural hair. NATURALS SHOULD DO IT.

  • I understand that but unless they plan on teaching her how to wear it natural then I say don't worry about it. I have seen a lot of videos with people degrading women who have perms or weaves. If you take care of your hair then it will grow. Natural doesn't equate to healthy but perms do eat your hair.

  • i think what people are trying to get bw to realize is that you don't need chemicals to be pretty. as for chemicals you make it other people's business when you put them in your head for everyone to see. especially if you wind up baldheaded. most black girls have. it leaves people to leave their opinions, lol.
