  • They were beauty´s...;)sold to Poland a few years ago to safe money for the Typhoon. They were often seen as Agresors at Red-Flag to beat the shit out of USAF´s F15/16 .....;)

  • From the all the smoke, you would think the MiG-29's were powered by GE-79's from an F-4 ! Funny !

  • @rampking1 i think the ruskis had better quality fuel, at least thats my opinion on why western fighters were renowned for having a dirty exhausts.

  • the sexiest jet there ever was in the Luftwaffe

  • @dcanmore Actually, now that I think about it, you are correct about Luftwaffe MiG-29's visiting Nellis AFB.

Yes, photos that were even shown in AIR FORCE magazine.

My comment was a challenge to "LC878" to back his claims of MiG-29's beating the shit out of F-15/16's there .

He is claiming something that even the IAF SU-30's couldn't pull off....

a lot of B.S, no facts.

German MiGs did beat Swiss F-18's (which get limited flying time from local noise restrictions), thats as far as it goes.

  • @rampking1 ... I believe the Luftwaffe MIG-29s acted as Aggressors at Nellis AFB during Red Flag 2000 and possibly earlier. I have a picture of German MIG-29s flying with F-16 Aggressors at the Nellis Range.

  • @LC878 Can you supply one link to back up this statement?

At least tell me the year the Luftwaffe brought the MiG-29 to Nellis AFB.

    Thanks

  • @rampking1 Tumansky's are smoky engines.

  • P.2 Another thing to consider is that the MiG-29 has almost half as much fuel as a Hornet, and burns it just as quickly. So, assuming both aircraft survive the intercept to the merge, the MiG pilot will soon be concerned with bugging out (or flaming out), while the Hornet pilot can continue to concentrate on working off the angles and getting into the MiG's control zone.

  • Truth is, the Hornet is a better aircraft in a 1 v 1 dogfight, if properly employed. If one were to look at the EM diagrams for these aircraft, it would be apparent that the MiG-29 has a higher thrust to weight ratio, which helps it out-rate the F-18 in a two-circle fight. But if a Hornet pilot forces the one-circle fight (which is easy to do), and executes properly, then there's little chance a MiG-29 will survive.

  • The German Migs were downgraded Mig-29A. Sure they were very good in clos combat especialy at low speeds. But saying the 29 was better than the Typhoon is simply untrue. I love the Fulcrum but tha A version is outdated and cant compete practicly with BVR monsters liek the Eagle or Typhoon. However the new Fulcrum , the Mig35 can do this. But its nearly a generation ahead of the A or S version.

Germany retired them when their time was up. The were very very usefull for training nato pilots.

  • Actually the israeli airforce has borrowed a couple for agressor training :o)
