Artist Statement: Lines, shapes, and patterns are all around us. Through the eyes of an artist, you begin to notice those motifs, or reoccurring themes if you will. Values and color are what distinguishes them. I've had a fascination with colors and lines since an adolescent; their meanings are endless when you execute them in such a manner and presentation. As an artist, my goal is for the viewer to take a step back, think for a moment and ponder upon whatever feelings the art piece might bring out in them. May it be happiness, sadness, anger, and etc. The art itself is so effective and powerful, it often enable's and spark's the emotions of an individual. They begin to truly realize how the art is portrayed and it further utilizes and enhances their minds and senses when certain colors and lines are presented. Generally, the right side of the brain is known to be associated with creativity and it intrigues me to ponder upon a child who tends to use their right side for processing because life to them is all new and exciting; they are not yet jaded. The reason being is because children have not a care in the world. They have an optimistic outlook to life and art. For them, it's out of sheer love and fun. Personally, I try to incorporate that spontaneous and optimistic mindset of a child to create my artwork. I try to let my mind wander and let the right side of my brain take over and create art pieces. It's an extremely difficult task as a young adult; my left side of the brain tends to interfere with the outcome of my pieces. As I begin to grow, my surroundings and personal experiences tend to have an influence in my paintings — I'm just trying to create a piece as if it was my first — when my mind was free. Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists of our lifetime, founder of cubism, and my inspiration. He has come very close to creating this "childish" sporadic art. His artwork has influenced me so greatly that I have almost grown away from realism and gone completely into abstract art. I have studied him for some great deal of time and his work really has inspired me as an artist. He opened the doors for my concepts to grow with endless limits. To me, art is my way out. It's helps me escape from stress, anger, frustration or anything else that is attached to a negative light. There's no such thing as good or bad art, its just expressing who you are and how you think. That's the beauty of it. Sometimes in life, there are no answers. Art's that way. Everything's based on how one perceives it. In a sense, it enables us to feel free and entitled to our opinions.
You can know so much about an artist just by looking at their creations. It's so mind-boggling to me how much things can be made with a simple blank canvas, paper, or any other medium mixed with value, composition and line. The limits and possibilities are endless. There is so much more to be discovered and explored, and as cliché as it sounds, "the skies' the limit" when it comes to art.
