Michael Finnissy: "Sea and Sky" (1980) for orchestra. "Sea and Sky" was commissioned by The London Philharmonic Orchestra. Finnissy was born in Tulse Hill, London. He was a foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music from 1965-68, where he studied composition with Bernard Stevens and the Webern disciple Humphrey Searle, and piano with Edwin Benbow. Finnissy has had a major influence as a composition teacher - former students include Luke Stoneham, Andrew Toovey, Morgan Hayes, ames Weeks and Alwynne Pritchard. (A special thank you to Morgan Hayes for bringing the music of Michael Finnissy, along with the explanatory notes to my attention).

@CatholicRoyalist I'm sorry, but I really don't think this kind of music has anything to do with communism. They didn't even tolerate Shostakovich for crying out loud!

Michael Finnissy taught me composition. Listening to this makes me realise how lucky I was to have learnt from him. Incredible.

This doesn't evoke anything but a dark, muddy vision of dirt washed upon an ill-cared-for beach. It is an indication of the communist infiltration into the arts that such an institution as the L.P.O. would even consider playing this. I beg everyone to stop purchasing this mind-breaking rubbish.
