  • im jealous :( all I have is a stereo cnadle 8 track recorder :(

im looking at 2 quad players, I like the Panasonic RS-858US because of the features it has (eject etc)

but I hear the Akai CR-80D-SS is better quality (and it appears on ebay more often)

which one should I buy? thanks

  • I'd think the Akai would be great if you can get a decent price for a good one. I've never had an Akai 8-track, but I have seen them on the Net and they sure are nice!

  • What's your favorite 8 track deck out of all the ones you own?

What's supposedly the nicest deck out of all the ones you own?

  • Deckwise the Realistic TR-801 or the Panasonic RS-858US.

  • Would you say the Technics RS-858US is nicer than the Panasonic RA-6600?

  • THey are both very nice.

  • Just to give a bit of update, After a month of repairing, it works just like a charm. My Sony TC-580 is up and running for now. I cleaned the heads and it works perfectly and then, the left and right arrow lights actually works and the VU meter on the left channel while recording and playback has restored in tape mode. I might give you an update on that later!

  • About a week and a half ago, I fixed my Sony TC-580 due to an issue with the capstan wheel being frozen. After so many lubrications, it works perfectly and tape starts moving! I fixed it and it's ready to run! As I said, I have the same exact model but it's missing the head cover and a pinch roller cover. No big loss on that.

  • I have this one, it's in the box with some VHS tapes there, but I'm not going to open it, because my mom will get into trouble. I took a peek at it inside in one of those holes. That's the reel-to-reel tape recorder that my uncle gave me, but I'm not going to show you until my next video in the coming weeks.

  • The weak left channel may not be a head issue. The TC-580 had a notorious issue with their record/playback switch inside the deck getting dirty and having issues. I have one that has the lower channel problem intermittently. The reliability problem stems from the auto reverse function which rather than relying on sensing foil like every other auto reverse reel to reel, this one used a dedicated head to look for equal length blank space on either side which led to random reversing.

  • nice score on the 8 track you can make quad tapes with it

  • CassetteMaster Did I tell you that I have a pair of HH Scott Speakers with 15" Woofers?

  • @banksstinger Pioneer cs99s are junk compared to pioneer hpm 100s .

  • @CassetteMaster great news!!!! I bought a technics (panasonic) RS-858US player off ebay ...after about 3 years of collecting and 600 or so tapes later, I have given up on finding one at a garge sale

btw do you have any shortwave/AM radio (they made some really nice fancy looking sold wood pieces in the 1930s-1940s...would be great if you could upload a vid of one)...I have my grand pa's radio...has no power to it but its quite nice looking

  • no offense but those hh scott speakers seem like trash to me. I ownly play music through 5 way speakers such as pioneer cs 99s or technics sb g910s.
