@bnull240 I'm speaking of the rondo of course, not the first movement.

I have heard many recordings of the fourth concerto, but I have NEVER heard anyone play the opening bars of that concerto as quickly or clearly as Kissin. It seems to be a segment that many virtuoso pianists struggle to play clearly.

@goodguysdoll Most of the great pianists mastered the piano and recorded all of the major repertoire, but Horowitz, Cortot, Hofmann Gilels and Richter didn't quit the instrument did they?

@demosj He didn't quit the piano in favor of conducting. Ashkenazy had already mastered the piano and recording ALL of the major repertoire. He had nowhere else to go but to a different field entirely.
