Suite Composed by: John Barry

Christmas 1183 - an aging and conniving King Henry II plans a reunion where he hopes to name his successor. He summons the following people for the holiday: his scheming but imprisoned wife, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine; his mistress, Princess Alais, whom he wishes to marry; his three sons (Richard, Geoffrey, and John), all of whom desire the throne; and the young but crafty King Philip of France (who is also Alais' brother). With the fate of Henry's empire at stake, everybody engages in their own brand of deception and treachery to stake their claim

  • This is superb. Just proves that John Barry was more than capable of composing a film score that would hold up against any classical music. It certainly is one of his richest, deepest compositions. Going to have to look for the movie on dvd now.

  • Wonderful! Marvelous score by the great John Barry. This film could have been perfect; my only problem with it is the casting of Hepburn as Eleanor. I thought her grossly unsuitable for the part; However unpopular my opinion, I have never cared for her as an actress. She was feeding her own vast self-absorption throughout this thing, and it's obvious. Everyone else, including a very young Anthony Hopkins, turned in stellar performances.
