@spiralheartmoongirl - there are a few subway stations that are "hidden" and no longer used. A lot of "El's" were just taken down altogether though.

@gtafanlol - the trains themselves were certainly not better.... lines were cut because of budgets.... but I think people are too nostalgic. When I was growing up the subway was even more dirty and less reliable. My experiences are from the 80's... so I can't speak on how it was prior to the fiscal crises of the 70's... it may be have been better. I've been to the Transit Museum in Brooklyn and you can go in the trains from that era with real leather straps and cushy seats - lol!
