Thanks for putting up some McMurtry on youtube. That said, this is bizarre. There are a couple of McMurtry's songs that touch on big oil and environmental disasters. This, as far as I can tell, is not one of them. Did an oil spill keep our hero from getting laid? Are big oil companies being unfaithful to mother earth? Or is it the juxtaposition of the song and the images as random as it appears? Maybe you could follow up with La Grange. You could use images of the Japanese earthquake.

James McMurtry spits out lyrics that bypass obscure poetic tricks in favor of scoring a direct hit on those who pay attention. I don't know how he does it and likely he doesn't either. Yet this songwriting wizard is no Prima Donna... He goes around the country on the road with his band, schlepping the gear from their van like everyone else until every last item is inside. Then he peels off the layers of bullshit from everyday life with words and music.
