@1973rossi what do you think of the 90's 4-8-4, is it a good buy ?

Are the freight cars from Rivarossi as well? beautifull train

Very nice video and music as well. I run the Rivarossi Hudsons with the old motors with satisfaction. In dcc they run even better, special in the slow speed regions. They are a little light. When you are a Rivarossi collector, you should to take a look and you will see a very interesting internetsite for yourself. It is all about Rivarossi's History. Nice regards.

i had the same problem but i greased it a bit and it runs as smooth as a new big boy and its can pull a bit of cars no problem.

What number is on the Big Boy?
Dude! That is the strongest Rivarossi I ever seen! You have a GREAT set of cars too. How much track do you lay out when you run your trains? I have only an 8 foot square I can run in my bedroom. You can see my babies at " model trains big boy 4015 & challengers"

Hi,
The minimum I use is a 6 foot square and the max about 12,5 foot. The track system is Roco Line on which the old Rivarossi cars run very well and savely. The whole train was about 18 meters long and the layout is not more than 24 meters.

did you puts weights in it?????

Hi,
no!!! I put the car with the highest weight behind the loco. Newer Rivarossi cars run very well and often have a higher weight and the better coupling system. The older cars at the end are no good runners but very light. I´ve tested it several times before it workes like been seen in the video.

I was wondering about the cab mounted motors....I picked up four nice Big Boys through Ebay, and noticed that the older of the four has that cab mounted motor.....when I run it under any kind of load, the motor starts to stink a little....like, well, hot electric...I oiled the whole assembly and it runs a little better, but it still stinks....I might have to replace the factory motor with something a little more modern.

Hi,
I am collecting old Rivarossi locos and I do exactly know what you meen. I have the y6b with the open cab mounted motor that is much more terrible than the later closed one. It always smells from the burned oil on the motors collector and is not very powerfull. To run this loco as a model train the motor should be changed.
