  • baTTle... or baddle?

  • baddle

  • I know moses hogan supposedly wanted it to be enunciated with the T's but along with many other interpretations on youtube (which doesn't make them right I know) we decided the d sound worked a bit better for us.

  • They're awesome. I agree that soprano was a little off... idk what happened there but otherwise they sounded great to me.

  • awesome :)

  • them damn tenors r on point...great blend

Again, no disrespect to you or this group. Frankly, I think the group is fantastic ... but the question was asked by many people so I just answered based on how it's written.

I was perhaps a bit direct, I do agree with you that interpretation...just for the sake of the meaning of the word, cannot really be wrong. However, I'm not really concerned with how anything is pronounced; it just so happens that the result of the pronunciation has an effect on the song performance. It's supposed to have a march feel, and when you have the men pronounce battle while the women do baddle, it creates that effect and that's one of the huge points of the song.

  • @petr1991 There are so many interpretations on how to enunciate this song. To judge this one "wrong" is just wrong. I think they did a very fine job.

btw, my church choir just did it yesterday (glorifying religious war on Easter in a progressive church, much to my chagrin) and the version we have uses corrected grammar "CAME tumbling down" and "battle IS in my hand". Is that wrong? Or is the older one? Neither.

  • It's actually both. TB sections should pronounce baTTle while the treble parts give a smooth baDDle, so this choir interpreted it wrong because the song should have a march feel to it, and the t's would make it much more percussive. The choir has a great sound though.

  • The voices blend perfectly. But dynamics? /:

  • I'd like to hear what this sounds like in our choir now

  • ow the poor soprano, she wasn't in her best form :/
