Troy I have a question: why do you solo with your thumb over the neck, when you recommend keeping your thumb behind the neck when playing scale runs in your book Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar??

@GuitarDom51 for string bending and pentatonic-based lines, thumb over neck works better. For wider stretches (diatonic runs), thumb lower on back of neck. I use both and switch between as needed.

Troy, I have to ask: how long have you been playing and how many hours (roughly) did/do you put in a day?
iQuaziRock 1 month ago
@iQuaziRock it just varies. Sometimes I don't play for weeks or even months if nothing's happening. Then I practice to blow the dust off, as much as needed. To maintain chops is not the same as developing them. When I was developing the skill set, I played a lot. Plenty of 8 hour days and more. I've been playing guitar over 30 years

Troy, I am having big problems to mute the other strings that I am not playing. Can you give me some tips about this?
vockla 1 month ago
@vockla the basic approaches I use are outlined in Metal Lead Guitar Primer. It's a matter of touching adjacent strings with the side(s) of your fretting fingers, and the lower strings can be held silent with the picking hand palm if necessary.
