* Download David Keith Jones from iTunes or Amazon MP3. 'Take the 'A' Train' was composed by Billy Strayhorn and made famous by Duke Ellington. The location has moved from New York to the Rhymney Valley of my youth in South Wales. This video is for Roy Lewis my cousin who played Rugby for Bargoed and had a distinguished career in the Metropolitan Police. My father commuted by rail from Bargoed to Cardiff for twenty years and this line still offers a good service. Shown in the video is a Castle Class locomotive and majestic Caerffili Castle plus two tank engines. Bargoed is featured with its mining past, but LLanbradach and snowbound Brithdir stations are also seen. My father is shown as a snooker champion in 1948 with the silverware to his right. Both he and my grandfather played Rugby for Bargoed. There are stills of our Lewis School Jazz Group in 1958. Neil Kinnock and I can be seen in a 1960 school assembly. A victorious Bargoed 1965 Rugby team is shown with captain Georgie Grist who had been in my junior school year. The 2009 audio backing comprises piano, bass and drums.
'Croeso i Gwm Rhymni' = 'Welcome to the Rhymney Valley'
'Hwyl fawr i bob un'='Good cheer to everyone'

  • @Loverboy19691 Thanks for your kind comment. There are other Bargoed videos on this channel eg 'Bargoed Fy Nhref' also one about Llanbradach (see channel Llanbradach). I was brought up near the 'Stute (convenient for my Dad) and my grandparents lived in Ruth St. Let me know something about yourself. Kind regards - David.

  • I know that some home movie footage of bargoed exists from the 50's, 60's and 70's, i wonder if anybody knows who's got them, i would love to see them on youtube, Andrew.

  • Hi david, how are you?, thanks for your message and for telling me about your brief family history, about me as you asked. I grew up in Bargoed, in cardiff road to be presice, in a property called 'Gladstone villa'! its now known as redz, it has a bit of a spooky reputation, and i can confirm its true!! as i lived there in the 1970's!, hope you can reply.

  • Thanks Roy - good to see you are on You Tube again. I appreciate your support.
