Could anyone tell me what those bars are for near the bottom of each window? They seem to be unique only on NJPS old looks.

Public Service had a slew of these manual transmission old looks, especially in southern New Jersey. I remember riding them in Camden on the 21 and 31 and 16-34 lines on Mt. Ephraim Avenue.

@RailFanTV Thanks. It just seems odd for a local bus (standee windows) of that vintage to have a manual transmission. I know the old-look commuter buses (large windows) all had manual transmissions.

Does this bus have a torque converter or a manual transmission? Sounds to me like a stick. Beautiful paint scheme.

@nyshortline
That's a manual 4-speed synchromesh v-drive.

@RailFanTV Thanks. Do you know if it came from the factory with the stick or did it originally have a torque converter? First time I've seen a "local" bus of this vintage with a stick.

I assume it came like that, since I didn't read or hear otherwise. But don't quote me!
