Named after the Roman god of war, Mars, whose myths were reinterpreted from the Greek Ares, the "Red Planet" has captured the curiosity of humankind and allured us with its unusual nature, and with it, the possibility of life.
By the 19th century telescopes allowed Schiaparelli to see lines on the surface, which he termed "canales." His suggestion spurred a belief that water canals might have existed on Mars, and therefore intelligent life, captured the imagination of science fiction writers and popular culture.
During the 1960s NASA Launched the Viking spacecraft which dispelled these myths, But it is often the stories, the myths, which inspire and drive creativity and progress from science fiction to science fact. Join me as we explore the possibility that Intelligent life just might exist on Mars in our lifetime in the form of artificial intelligence.
