NVDA stands for Non Visual Desktop Access and is a free and open source screen reader for the Microsoft Windows operating system. NVDA provides feedback via synthetic speech and Braille enabling blind or vision impaired people to access computers running Windows.
Some of its features include support for over 20 languages and the ability to run entirely from a USB drive with no installation.
NVDA is part of the MyStudyBar suite of open source and freeware applications developed by the JISC RSC Scotland North & East.
This is amazing and I will download it tonight when I get home from work. It only makes sense that blind people shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars just to have the same access as our sighted peers. Kudos on this project!

@Tripleni No it isn't. I use NVDA daily. The version from nvda-project (dot) org is totally safe and awesome.

NVDA 2010.1 is nearly as good as Jaws, and better because it's free and open source. Also, eSpeak is not a voice but a synthesizer with it's own unique set of computer voices. I like using NVDA with Windows 7 because you can take advantage of MS Anna sapi5 voice.
