  • Do you have the second part to this? It cuts off half way through.

  • sorry, i dont have the full video. I did not make this, i found it on the net. I have never been able to contact the person who made this. But look at the description if you ant the book.

  • I just read 'Civil Disobedience', and it's quite thought provoking. The are some things which I would be inclined to disagree with, but minor only. I'm in the middle of reading a few of his essays now, and am enjoying them. I knew I had to read him ever since I found out that his writings influenced the likes of Mahatma Ghandi and Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Thanks for the post!

  • True, how can this man sitting by the walden pond in a small cabin know so much? just look at the progression THOREAU--->GANDHI--->KING---> OBAMA. I think obama has to prove my asumption yet. Just one proof that "Ideas can change the world".

  • @clearredial Now that i'ts been over a year that you've posted this comment. What do you think now? about Obama and the subject?

  • @razamaer Have to disagree with my comments.Sad

  • beowulf has hit it on the head! it is our fault for remaining willfilly ignorant and being non active in our roles as citizens. first and foremost we have enslaved ourselves and sold our souls out with our attachment to property and the idea of physical as well as pyschological security. we are conditioned to be obedient non active citizens without questioning authority. either be perfectly obedient and have masters or take thoreau's advice and be disobedient. fear is what holds us back

  • Thoreau sounds like he is from the FUTURE so alien are his ideas that the individual has a conscience and does not consent with the follies of goverment. Government is best which is not there.

  • @clearredia one of those four is not like the other.

  • @pulsebreathing

Nah man, He's not from the future, our leaders are just from the past. And from the feel in the air, I'm gonna put my money on they and their ways being ancient history in the very near future of this country.

  • @clearredial I would say that Obama shouldn't make that list.

  • Where is the rest?

  • @mEfLiNgPoOaTyOu2007 Thoreau ... the constitutionalist proto-libertarian ... a "leftist"?

    Oh please.

I can tell you are a leftist, though, because you resort so speedily to an ad hominem insult of a person you don't even know - an intellectually bankrupt tactic that's so common for you leftists.

Thoreau's advocacy for supremacy of liberty of the individual citizen is something no "leftist" would favor anyway. The Left are so keen on lumping people into groups for smoother government control.

  • @eliezerberry

The political philosopher? He was a leftist who inspired Tolstoy and Dr. King, would he be against peaceful protest? Not too sure that you think before you speak, do you have ADD? Take some drugs for that.

  • @mEfLiNgPoOaTyOu2007 He'd tell these people to stop squatting on property that they didn't own.

  • The only issue I have is that anarchism and liberalism are lumped together at the begining of this. In fact, the two have absolutely nothing to do with eachother.

  • Legalize weed

Withdrawal of all troops and point the guns outward

    Manufacture goods instead of importing

    Revamp entire educational system

Give nasa steroids, and build on mars!!!!

Too outrageous?? Then you lack vision my nigga!!!!

  • I wonder what Thoreau would say about occupy wall street. . .
