A collection of games and techdemos created using the Away3D 4.0 codebase for Flash 11. Latest version of the library can be downloaded from github (away3d/away3d-core-fp11), and you can catch up on all Away3D developments by going to awayd [dot] com. Thanx go out to all contributors! (Requires the RC1 beta version of Flash Player 11, currently downloaded from Adobe Labs)

yeah, that will be because the author hasn't updated his codebase inline with the Flash 11 release. There was a minor API change prior to launch that throws an error for any old content but you should have no problems using the latest updates to the engine in github

  • @tradecycles

Flash 8 pro will not be able to compile such source files by default, but you can try using FlashDevelop with the latest Flex SDK or upgrade to Flash CS5.5 and follow the instructions for upgrading the compiler to include Flash 11 targets

Flash 11 has a new set of APIs called Stage3D (previously molehill) that leverage the GPU to enable desktop-quality 3D effects. Away3D 4.0 is the latest version of our open source 3D engine, and one that allows easy access to Stage3D via the typical 3D engine route - something previous Away3D users will already be familiar with.

  • Its all awesome! great job.. :D

  • I've managed to use the FLARToolkit with Away3D4.0, would that qualify to be shown on the demoreel?

  • I've tried testing blam3d dot com demos and they don't seem to run though my flash is fully updated :(

Well, last question, would new flash accept AS2, cause i'm kinda proficient in that bro.

    thanks for all good info

You can download the Flash Professional CS5.5 30 day trial and test it out with that - its what im doing :)

And yes, hardware-accelerated 3d games are possible now in the release version of Flash Player. I've heard talk that they're even going to port the unreal engine over to flash, as well as offering an export to flash option from Unity.

  • Would away 3d work with Flash 8 pro? And do u mean Flash 11 has a 3d engine now? Means 3d games possible?

  • Awesome, nice one Rob & Joseph!

Really love the tune too :)

  • gonna be HUGE when FP 11 drops ; )
