Iranians, Mullahs and Israel, October 7, 2010, By Amir A. Fakhravar
Enmity with Israel has been one of the hallmarks of the Islamic Republic since its inception. In August 1979, the year of the revolution, Khomeini named the last Friday of the month of Ramadan as Guds day and called on "the Muslims of the world and the M...uslim governments to join together to sever the hand of this usurper (Israel) and its supporters". I remember seeing a quote from Khomeini stating that " Israel must be wiped off the world scene" on walls and banners throughout my childhood and adolescence. The current president of the Islamic Republic, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has followed Khomeini's extremist views by questioning the very existence of Israel at every opportunity, denying the Holocaust and stating that "Israel should be wiped off the map".There is no question that Israel is a sovereign nation and to this end she not only has the right to exist but also to defend its existence by any means necessary. This ideology and these comments are racist and fascist. I have personally witnessed the animosity of this regime in the Islamic Republic prisons. The world witnessed last year the degree of violence that it is willing to inflict on its own people. This should warn the world community of the real threat of this regime towards Israel. Why is there such a deafening silence in this regard? What Ahmadinejad and other fundamental Muslim ideologues like him do not reveal is the real reason for this enmity. In the Koran, the holy book of Islam, it is stated on several different occasions that the Israelite will always remain wanderers and will never have a nation of their own. The very existence of Israel disproves this statement. Any fallacy in the Koran seriously undermines the legitimacy of the theocratic dictatorship in Iran and the ruling clergy, including the supreme leader.
