I do this Chris. I have a 10,000rpm raptor drive with a (rather pathetic) 140GB capacity. I then also have a 1TB standard speed hard drive that I use for storage. Documents, music, videos, everything else goes straight on there. I've reinstalled/switched OS countless times and all my data has remained unspoiled.

I think it is possible, but a dual-layer blue ray disc is only up to about 50GB, HDs go up to about 10TB

Hell, you could use a fricken Blu-Ray disc as a hard drive! O.o Those things store epic amounts!
