Battle of the Coral Sea - Lest We Forget

The Coral Sea holds great historical significance for Australia and the United States. In May 1942, it was the scene of a naval battle that reversed the tide of World War II in the Pacific. The Protect Our Coral Sea campaign has produced an 8-minute documentary in honour of those who fought and died in the Battle of the Coral Sea.

Special thanks to veterans Tommy Simms and Ted Simpson and their families and naval historian Dr David Stevens and everyone else involved with this documentary for their contribution.

  • @nicolaaist Yeah, you could be right. What I really meant was the Australian Media tend to only concentrate on Gallipoli.

  • Thanks to the US for supporting Aus. Seems like the outcome helped the odds at Midway since 2 Japanese carriers were put out of action while the Yorktown was very important there

  • @AussieSoldier1984 Thank you brother, I forgot to mention, that when we left Australia, we visited New Zealand, and the welcome was just the opposite, especially from the New Zealand men.

  • Australia - a friend forever.

    Thanks from the United States....

  • @DD826 the worst thing is that Australia treated its soldiers on return from vietnam with the same contempt as America did with theirs, mis-guided public turning on the ones who protect them and were ORDERED to go, and not the government who ordered them to go. ppl are so blind sometimes and turn on the wrong ppl. thank you for ur service brother and Lest We Forget.

  • Thanks for your service Australia! A true ally and true friend to America.

  • Americans. We will never forget this. We owe you big time. The English let us down. You guys didn't. When the chips are down, you know who your real friends are. God bless the Lady Lex. God bless the USN. God bless the great American people.

  • That's a pretty cool idea: a maritime nature reserve dedicated to the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Americans who lost their lives.

Yeah, I think the reason Gallipoli is so focused on here, especially on ANZAC Day, is because it was the first major Battle Australia was ever involved it. It was like the blood-christening of the country. I would prefer to have ANZAC at the forefront of memory, because we got our arses serves to us on a plate, and therefore dispels any idea that war it glamorous. It's better than simply remembering the triumphs and pretending the failures never occurred, like some nations do.

  • @qxy333 that is so untrue. The reason for me even finding this video is because we are researching it and other battles australia was involved in. A bit of a generalization that needs to be rethought...
