@Wildrover434 Thanks for the reply. Yes they do look a lot closer in the video maybe it's because of the hill.

great stuff as usual, lovely to see a bit of recent history on video, so every one can see it. Quite a labour intensive operation.

great videos how did you harvest the potatoes on the slopes

@deutzmans Hi there ,thanks for your comment, originally it used to be done by hand with a fork ,then when the winch came along we used to use a plough to turn them over, then in the late seventies my father bought a little machine that had a briggs & stratton motor on it which dug and shook out the potatoes behind it .This was a lot easier and quicker but it was quite heavy and it still had to be pulled down the slope by hand for each row and then pulled up again with the winch!!

@Wildrover434 why did ye plant the tubers so close together? We normally plant them a foot apart.

@cattlewrangler With the Jersey Royals it depends on the size of the tuber, small you plant about 6 inches apart, ware about 9 inches which is what these are, they look closer together in this video than they actually were and toppers about a foot apart. The maincrop potatoes (English variaties ) we usually plant at least a foot apart.
