Ua Hiki Mai s a Communion hymn from a rare old book, Lira Katolika, one of the earliest and best Catholic hymnals in the Hawaiian language. It was printed in 1886, just three years before Father Damien's death. It is possible Father Damien saw a copy, and undoubtedly he heard some of the hymns recorded here. Older Hawaiians at Kalaupapa and on other islands still sing these hymns.
The choir has about 15 members and is composed entirely of Hansen's disease patients, under the direction of Father Gustave Fierens, SS.CC., recorded around 1961 at St. Francis Church, Kalaupapa, Molokai.
