On March 3, 2010, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) was forced to take a leave of absence from his position as chair of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee due to ethics investigations.

Two weeks later, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) publicly referred to Rangel as "my leader" and declared that she votes as Rangel votes.
