From the LP - Hugh Masekela "Is Alive And Well At The Whiskey"
Trumpet & Vocals -- Hugh Masekela Bass -- Henry Franklin Drums -- Chuck Carter Percussion -- Elmer Siegel Piano -- Cecil Barnard Saxophone -- Al Abreu Producer -- Stewart Levine
This album was my introduction to instrumental jazz as well as African musicianship. I was digging this album before I even started school, and I thought that COINCIDENCE was the most beautiful song, whatever he was singing about.
Love this song! I used to have this album. Would you happen to remember or know the name of the song he did about his father? Maybe it's on this album, I don't remember, but I heard him sing it at a concert, and I can't locate it anywhere. Thanks for posting!!
So happy to know someone else remembers, or even knows about, this fabulous number. First heard it at live performance in a little club in the 70's--did it faster with a different verse that had some words like"everbody talkin bout peace these days (while everywhere bombs fallin and people dyin) B,WAC! Blew me away, but these days when I quote it or say "remebr that Hugh Masekala song?, I get the blank look. Thank you for posting this.
A friend of my sister brought this album to the house, I think in 1970 ( I was 10 yrs. old). I've always loved it and have held on to the album all these years. I am so grateful for this being on youtube. Could/would you put the remaining songs on? As you can tell, I was a hip kid :)
