This song reminds me of the end of the book "The Outliers: a history of success" by Malcom Gladwell.
"... How many more would live a life of fullfillment in a beautiful house high on a hill" I find it hauntingly beautiful.
And you get it better with having a personal/family history of pain, trauma. How the stories repeat themselves generation after generation, because of parenting style, is product of what the parent experienced as a child neglect, violence or abuse. and part of the healing process might be going away from the family, or going beyond blaming the parents and understanding that on a level it was not their fault.
This song for me is about, healing facing and overcoming, escaping the circle of pain. Like the cycle stops with us, we will not pass this to our children, and won't nurture the seeds of evil. Also you might get out of it, but it doesn't fully get out of you. and at some point one goes back and faces it
Notice the first lines of the song
The construction of the song is amazing.
raven hair mama, then silver hair mama
pumping blood to keep it you, pumping blood to keep us young.
And then it goes "in the shadow of the valley of your family tree" I think its a reference to Psalm 23, when it says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me"
Here are the lyrics
The Family Tree
Artist: Tv on the Radio
Album: Dear Science
Under my love
Wake up to your window
The day calls in billows
It's echoing moonlight onto the blue nightmare of your heart
In cosy red rainbow
It's shaking off halos
And the memory of our sacred so and so's
Oh take my hand sweet
Complete your release, unbury your feet
And married we'll be
Alone in receiving
ours is a feeling not that they would see
They don't know that we could be
Down where your cradle escaped the sea
And your raven haired Mama cought told you so's
Were hanging in the shadow of your family tree
Your haunted heart and me
Brought down by an old idea whose time has come
And in the shadow of the gallows of your family tree
There's a hundred hearts soar free
Pumping blood to the roots of evil to keep them young
Ah me all mine
Is it safe to say that we've waited patiently?
Call me on time
Ah me all mine,
Is it safe to say that we've waited patiently,
Call me on time,
And recall the tune that has placed us gracefully,
All into line
There's the garden grave and a place they've saved for you
I'll fall by your side
Though your silver haired Mama throws told you so's
Were laying in the shadow of your family tree
Your haunted heart and me
Brought down by the lullaby whose time has come
And in the shadow of the gallows of your family tree
There's a hundred hearts soar free
Pumping blood to the roots of evil to keep it young
And now we'll gather in the shadow of your family tree
In haunted harmony
Brought down by an old idea whose time has come
And in the shadow of the valley of your family tree
There's a hundred hearts soar free
Pumping blood to the roots of evil to keep us young
They played this song on a local radio station the day that Gerard passed away. I haven't payed much attention to the lyrics so I don't know what it is really about, but somehow the general atmosphere of the song seemed very fitting at the time.

Quick correction. The lyrics during the bridge are actually:
"Ah me all mine,
Is it safe to say that we've waited patiently,
Call me on time,
And recall the tune that has placed us gracefully,
All into line"

im sorry miss but the world is hardly your simplified version of good and evil. You didnt even ge the title right, maybe next time when you dont write a book first about yourself =)

Now you call me Miss?
In this situation it is very simple, you calling someone you don't know a whore is a manifestation of evil.
You are an abuser , going around and spreading your bad karma that's what you do.
Face it
And music, or a work of art doesn't end with the finished work, but extends to how it inspires/touches the person who experiences it .
I am done with you. Not time fort this
