Inspired silliness. I still prefer the original recording, though. My mom introduced this to my younger brother and me somewhere during our middle school years and our jaws dropped to the floor, it was so shockingly, subversively funny. 60 years on, the entire recording still holds up well.
I saw this in 1952 and far preferred it to several other shows including "The King and I". It has aged wonderfully well and is as droll and amusing as it was then. Of course, so has "The King and I".
This song is from "New Faces of 1952" -- which was, by far, the best of all the New Faces revues -- introducing Eartha Kitt, Paul Lynde, Alice Ghostley, Robert Clary and Ronny Graham (who led this Lizzie Borden number). There was no "New Faces of l954". The "New Faces" series went directly from 1952 to l956.
This was hilarious the first time I heard it on the radio show "The Midnight Special" almost 20 years ago, and it's even funnier with visuals. Lizzie Borden in a red dress, doing the can-can -- priceless. Thank you for posting it.

The movie came out in 1954. But I believe the movie was still called "New
Faces of 1952" -- the same as the show.

@cjprentiss1: "New Faces of 1954" is the film version of the highly successful "New Faces of 1952."
