Penitentiary Glen - Lake Metroparks - Kirtland, Ohio

This is my 8th in a series of videos I will be posting of the Lake Metroparks I will be visiting that are scattered around Lake County, Ohio here were I live.

Penitentiary Glen Reservation features 424 acres of forest, fields, wetlands, and over 7.5 miles of hiking trails. The park is named for the deep gorge that divides it, which is easy to get into and difficult to get out of. Naturalists lead exciting programs year-round including nature-inspired events, programs, and classes. Picnic at the sheltered pavilion and listen to the sounds of nature.

Park Amenities
Accessible facilities, picnic area with grills, All People's Trail, drinking water, restrooms, hiking trails, cross-country skiing, Nature Center, Wildlife Center, The Nature Store gift shop, and a bridle trail.

Nature Center:
The Nature Center houses hands-on exhibits, art shows, an award winning "Window on Wildlife," and The Nature Store.

Lake Shore Live Steamers Railroad:
Miniature steam-powered engines pull passengers through the woodlands of Penitentiary Glen Reservation to the rim of the gorge. Trains sometimes run in conjunction with a special event.

The railroad is operated by the Lake Shore Live Steamers Club.

Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center Mission:
To reduce human impact on native Ohio wildlife through education and rehabilitation.

Each year, nearly 2,000 injured or orphaned animals receive first aid and rehabilitation at the Wildlife Center. Patients include backyard wildlife, such as rabbits and songbirds, and endangered species such as the peregrine falcon and bald eagle. Many eventually resume their life in the wild.

The Wildlife Center is home to 25 Animal Ambassadors ranging from reptiles, mammals, to a variety of birds of prey. These animals assist the staff in teaching the public, groups, and students about wildlife issues and conservation. All of our school programs meet current academic standards.

@MoviesMusicNature I love PG. It is a very fun place to work; everyone is friendly and you get to interact with soo many animals, which I love dearly. I'm hoping to become a zoologist one day so vulonteering here every weekend is a start.

@seahue We were kind of shocked when we came from around a bend in the trail to see these deer. We thought they would run also but they seemed quite content with us being there. They were just looking for food and chomping away while we filmed them. Thanks for stopping on by and leaving a comment....
