Princeton Goals Quinnipiac 2010 11 23 TV

HAMDEN, Conn. (11/23/10) - In his last start, Sean Bonar came with nine seconds of his first career shutout. On Tuesday he got that shutout as he made 23 saves to backstop the Princeton men's hockey team to a 3-0 win at Quinnipiac.

Bonar got his first career win on Nov. 13 at Cornell, but needed overtime after Cornell scored an extra attacker goal with nine seconds left to spoil the shutout. Bonar made 24 saves in that game, but only needed 23 to blank the Bobcats on Tuesday.

The game was also a rebound of sorts for the Princeton power play. The Tigers went 0 for 7 in a loss to Dartmouth on Saturday but rebounded to score on two of four chances against Quinnipiac.

The game got off to a slow start as the first half was marred by whistles, offsides and icings. Princeton scored at 7:56 of the second period and the game seemed to pick up from there. The opening goal came from Cam Ritchie on the power play. After Matt Godlewski brought the puck into the zone, all the Quinnipiac defenders worked over to one side of the ice, leaving Ritchie alone on the opposite side. Jack Berger found the puck and fed Ritchie on the open side, where he took a few strides and beat Bobcat goaltender Eric Hartzell for his first goal. The goal was the fifth in Ritchie's career and his third at the TD Bank Sports Center.

Princeton held the lead through the second intermission, but Bonar and the Tigers got a little help from the cross bar late in the period as a shot from Zach Hansen on the power play rang the iron in the final minute of the second.

In the third, Princeton had to kill off a five-minute major penalty to Andrew Ammon with the lead still at 1-0 before Taylor Fedun scored on the power play to give the Tigers a little bit of breathing room. His shot came off a feed from Andrew Calof and Mike Kramer also assisted on the goal at 12:16 of the third.

Kevin Lohry closed the scoring with a shorthanded empty net goal in the final minute after Will MacDonald blocked a point shot that rebound caromed right to Lohry for his second goal of the year and second goal in as many games.

Princeton outshot Quinnipiac 33-23 in the win. Bonar stopped all 23 shots, included 10 in the final period, while Hartzell made 30 saves in the loss. Princeton killed off six penalties in the win.

Princeton is now 5-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the ECAC. The Tigers are off Thanksgiving weekend
