The redcapped mangabey has a good life at the Zoo. Visitors sometimes think he might be lonely because he is the only redcapped mangabey in the Zoo.
But even though redcapped mangabeys are usually social creatures, each time the Zoo attempted to introduce him to a mate, he became aggressive and showed that he prefers to be solitary.
Of course, maybe they just didn't find the right match for him yet. But he seems perfectly content as a confirmed bachelor.
@phantompanther One was old ... and I believe the other one is still at another zoo.
Several attempts were made to bring in a mate for this one, but none worked out, and as you can see, he seems to be very content as a bachelor.

@ZooVisitorMM Yeah, that's true. However, even though they have their own personalities, they do tend to have certain behaviors, so it a bit strange when one of them does something completely different than the usual. Not that I think they can't.
Thanks for the extra information. Do you know what happened to the other mangabeys?

@phantompanther One of the fascinating things visitors can learn by visiting a lot of zoos and visiting the same ones frequently is that animals have unique individual personalities just like people do.
The other redcapped mangabeys that used to live in the Philadelphia Zoo were very social with each other.

That's really interesting. I wonder why he prefers to be alone.
